Following a thread on Agni forum I became aware how worried some British residents are about having to transfer large amounts of money into Greek banks in order to avoid extra taxes. Last year many British owners of Corfu property were asked to transfer around eleven thousand euros to Greek banks. They were told they could transfer the money back eight weeks later once they had the pink slips. This year some people have been told they have to transfer up to twenty two thousand euros and many are worried because they are unable to do this.
I have just complained about this practice to the EU. If you are affected please use this link to complain, its a very easy online form to fill in.

This is the information I included in my complaint.....
In the past two years many British people who own property in Corfu have been asked to transfer money from the UK to Greek banks in order to cover the cost of owning and maintaining that property, whether they are resident in Greece or not.
Last year British people were asked to prove they transferred a minimum of eleven thousand euros in that year so they would not be subject to extra tax. This year people are being asked to transfer up to twenty two thousand euros in order not to be taxed. They are being told that it can be transferred back after a minimum of eight weeks.
I do not understand how British people who are EU citizens can be treated differently to Greek citizens and other residents here. It is discrimination against fellow EU citizens.
Many of the British residents are very worried about this new ruling by the Greek government and tax authorities and fear they will be subject to prejudicial taxation and treatment.
